100-Word Challenge, Day 252


The familiar grating of the door’s lock made Evan’s heart beat faster until he was sure it would fly out of his chest. He had always taken his freedom for granted. Being born on Terra he had enjoyed political freedom and had a free hand in choosing his education and even his move to the moon. Aldric had exerted a certain tyrannical control over his life, but even that was nothing compared to the weeks of imprisonment he had suffered at the hands of his jailers. To be fair, he was not sure where he would have gone, or if he would have survived the explosion at his last residence, but there was only so much confinement he could stand.
