Sometimes You Have To Change Your Priorities

If you have been following this blog at all for the last year or so, you know that until recently I have been a pretty consistent blogger, with my daily 100 posts being the primary staple until this summer. My consistency was thrown for a loop back in January when we found out that my wife was pregnant. I was able to keep up with my writing for most of the year, but eventually my husband/father duties, along with my second and third jobs, put a limit on how much time I had to write.

Don’t get me wrong, getting to hold my little girl in my arms has made all of it worth while, and I would gladly do it again. My wife gave birth to Kaitlyn Grace Swett at 7:33 AM on October 4th. Both mother and baby are doing just fine and my two boys absolutely love their younger sister.

Now that I have explained the drop off in my productivity, it is time to get to the meat of things. I haven’t posted much about what else has been going on, so I thought this would be a good time to do that.

I have been working hard on the sequel to my first book, Apocalypse Rising, and was planning on an October release date, but that has proven to be unlikely. Scratch that, it has proven to be impossible. Right now I am hoping to have the first draft done by the end of October so that I can release it by December 1st, but even that is proving to be a challenge.

With all of that being said, I have decided to forgo participating in this year’s NaNoWriMo, so that I can focus on meeting my self imposed deadline. I am not really happy about this, but getting out the sequel is more important to me than taking parting in the grewling marathon that is NaNoWriMo.

Once the sequel is finished, I may take a short break before putting out the third book in the series, so that I can finish the editing of the other two books I have waiting in the wings, but the urge to work on the series may prove overwhelming.

Next year should be a big year for me and my family, and with any luck I will be in a position where writing can become a greater focus and there will be three or four more books published. I appreciate all of the support given by my friends and family and I promise to do my best to keep the books coming.

  1. Are you kidding me…she’s the best and most beautiful reason to “slack” I’ve ever seen. Every moment is precious…don’t regret how your spending them!! As for the novel…we can wait. πŸ™‚
